ABIC Program
The philosophy of Acadiana Brain Injury Center recognizes that
individuals with Acquired Brain Injury experience lasting changes in
physical, cognitive, communicative and psycho-social abilities and that
these changes affect all areas of life function. We feel that
these individuals have a right to pursue a quality of life which
includes working toward achieving the highest level of participation in
family, community, leisure and work / educational activities. We
believe that these individuals have the right to be treated with dignity
and respect, to be involved in decisions that affect their lives,
participate in a safe but least restrictive environment, and to risk
with appropriate support.
Our responsibilities are to provide a safe, structured
environment to meet the functional rehabilitation needs of those adults
participating in ABIC that is economic and cost effective, without
regard to national origin, race, political or religious belief. We
are dedicated to providing the highest quality of care with compassion
and respect for each person served in order to enhance quality of life.
Individualized Treatment Programs are conducive to the individual
treatment goals and enabling an individual the opportunity to achieve
his/her maximum level of functional independent living within overall
expectations. Objectives to meet this goal are as follows:
- To implement and monitor activities of
daily living
- To re-enforce individual treatment
goals
- To provide a safe, secure, therapeutic
rehabilitative plan of care
- To provide an effective support system
for each person served
- To provide community-based job
training and placement services
Individuals with brain injury need structure in order
to learn and succeed. But it is a delicate balance. Too much
structure limits challenge and growth. Too little structure causes
confusion and agitation. Our facility is a home environment with
no resemblance to hospitals or institutions. The rehabilitative
services are designed to assist persons served in overcoming or adapting
to physical and/or neurological defects while maximizing their
functional abilities.
Our program is structured and active at all times.
Through each step, qualified staff members provide positive role
models, working side-by-side with Participants, concentrating on the
gradual completion of more challenging tasks, and building each
individual's sense of accomplishment and self-esteem. Our
Director of Clinical Services supervises each treatment plan to ensure
the most appropriate level of treatment, communication, discharge
planning and follow-up care. Our team approach is such to focus
on returning the participants to the highest level of functioning
possible, while emphasizing strengths and accommodating unique needs.
The participants receive therapy from a certified and licensed staff
consisting of a Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Speech
Therapist, Physical Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor,
Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist and Case Manager.
Monthly Support Meetings will be held for
family members and/or guardians. Participation in these meetings
is highly recommended. Part of the program will be question and
answer sessions.
The office hours of ABIC are from 8:00 a.m. until
5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office of ABIC will be closed
